Een wetenschappelijk team zoekt langs de Amazone naar fossielen. Ze ontdekken een prehistorische Gill-Man in de legendarische Zwarte Lagune. Het mysterieuze wezen wordt gevangen, maar het weet te ontsnappen. Hij keert terug om Kay, de verloofde van één van de teamleden, te ontvoeren.
