Monet in Zaandam
Monet's visit to Zaandam represented both an artistic and historical treasure.
In 1871, French painter Claude Monet spent four months in Zaandam. He was inspired by the Zaanse houses and mills, the peat meadow landscape and the boats on the Zaan, and produced as many as 25 paintings during that period. 19th-century Zaandam through Monet's eyes: both an artistic and historical treasure.
Monet in the Museum
At the Zaans Museum, you can see the painting 'The Voorzaan and the Westerhem'. The museum also has in its collection a letter Monet wrote to painter Camille Pissarro on 2 June 1871. Among other things, he wrote: "Zaandam is indeed particularly remarkable and there is enough to paint for a lifetime".

The MonetAtelier showcases replicas of Monet's 25 paintings from Zaandam and also serves as a meeting point for Monet enthusiasts, information point and knowledge centre.
