Sustainable Tuesday 6 September 2022 prompted us to list the Zaanish, fair and green addresses for food and drink.
We collected 5 toppers, but - knowing this quirky region full of makers - there is much more to report on green, organic, fair and sustainable.

Zaanse Bakkertje
The bakers at het Zaanse Bakkertje eagerly seize every opportunity to develop new products.
They started vegan since 2016 and since then that range has grown to 60 products and their Vegan Bakery has a national reputation. Het Zaanse Bakkertje stands for pure, artisanal and honest.

Heerlijk
In the Zaanbocht, lovers of organic will find the shop Heerlijk. "Where love for nature, passion for good food and fair trade merge into an organic supermarket," they themselves characterise their shop.
Shopping, something nice for coffee, real bread and fine gifts. Overlooking the beautiful heritage on the Zaan. What more could you want?

Jongwijs
The interior of this gas-free national monument in Westzaan is 95% reused and recycled and upcycled, and you also get honest food.
Meat from the farmer down the road, pie made from apples from their own orchard, coffee beans roasted in the Zaanse bay...here you can rediscover the flavours of the past and taste the future. Half the menu is also vegan.
White Ranch
On the Groenedijk (how appropriate) in Assendelft is the White Ranch. Organic dairy farm, but also visiting and care farm, resting point and shop.
In their self-service shop, you will find their own, organic milk, cheese, meat and ice cream. They also form a Buurderij and you can pick up ordered products from nearby makers here.
