    Open Monument Day 2026 will take place on Saturday 12 September and Sunday 13 September.

During Open Heritage Day 2026 (free admission), you can take a look inside various heritage sites that are open to the public. There’s often something extra on offer too, such as an exhibition, a tasting session or a guided tour.

This year, we are also celebrating a special milestone: the 40th edition of Open Monument Day. This year’s theme is ‘Resilient Heritage’ – a theme that, particularly in times of change and uncertainty, demonstrates how monuments, stories and places continue to connect and inspire generations.

Various walking and cycling routes have been organised especially for this occasion, and this year there are also some special new participants taking part.

Funniest children's route in the zaan region!

Explore the Westzijde
Set off on an adventure along the Westzijde! Discover special monuments, search for hidden details and complete fun tasks along the way. You can follow the children’s trail throughout the weekend on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September between 10.00 and 17.00 (unless otherwise stated). Don’t forget to look up as you go: there are surprising decorations to discover on the old façades. Put on your walking shoes and set off on a journey of discovery!
