Damsluis in de Assendelvertocht
The dam lock is part of the former Defence Line of Amsterdam and measures 29.7 metres in total length. This is the third dam sluice in the Aagtendijk-Zuidwijkermeer line, built in 1894-1895 and located in the embankment between Kagerweg and Fort Zuidwijkermeer. In normal condition, the sluice provides communication to both sides of the line in the Meerweidetocht, one of the main lines in the Wijkermeerpolder. In times of war or threat of war, the sluice was intended 'to turn the inundation west of the defence wall'.
