De Groote Weiver
More than 300 bands have performed on stage, over 150 films have been shown and many thousands of vegetarian meals have been served. Benefits have been organised and events held, and of course there has been a lot of partying. Dozens of new beers have been introduced while hundreds of people have replenished their wardrobes of clothes, books or crockery very cheaply.
De Groote Weiver in Krommenie was the first Zaanish creative breeding ground. For twenty years, people used the building on the gasworks site as a film house, eatery, first Zaanish recycling shop, as a place for parties, concerts and job training. This temporary facility proved so successful that the users of de Groote Weiver - after rehabilitation of the area - were given new accommodation in Wormerveer. The new accommodation has a stage for bands, a café, a thrift shop and films are shown.
