Kogerkerk en begraafplaats
The historic Kogerkerk in the heart of Koog aan de Zaan was built in 1686 as a hall church. In 1825, the church was enlarged with a transept. In 1920, lightning caused the church tower and a large part of the church roof to go up in flames. The organ also suffered a lot of damage. Tower and organ were rebuilt and embellished. A restoration in 2001 gave the church interior its current splendour. The restored 17th-century church council chamber at the back of the church was put into use in 2011.
The current monumental large organ dates from 1922. In that year, the organ builder H.W. Flentrop made a new instrument within the existing case. In doing so, he used much of the material of the original 19th-century builder Van den Brink. The instrument was also given a swell with 'modern' stops and an extended pedal. Flentrop restored the organ in 2008. The 1922 structure was fully restored....
