Monument Hannie Schaft
Her father Pieter Schaft was born in Oostzaan. During World War II, she took an active part in the resistance and helped people in hiding with stolen voucher cards and identity cards. Her pseudonym became Hannie and her nickname 'the girl with the red hair'. Together with others, she carried out several attacks on Germans, collaborators and traitors.
Hannie Schaft was arrested and executed in the dunes near Bloemendaal three weeks before the end of the war on 17 April 1945. Her remains were later reburied in the Bloemendaal Cemetery of Honour in Overveen. A memorial plaque in her memory, "Forward and not forgotten", has also been placed on Hannie Schaftplein.
